Accelerating high-impact MVPs: Scalable Design Systems for Aviation and Logistics

1. The challenge

Zallpy partners with major global companies—including aviation leaders like Embraer and complex logistics networks—to launch rapid, high-fidelity MVPs. Designing for these corporate environments requires meeting rigorous usability standards, tight development deadlines, and strict regulatory compliance.

Initially, the legacy workflow between design and development was a major bottleneck. Repetitive UI decisions, a lack of standardized layout rules, and misaligned handoff structures led to significant design debt, slow release cycles, and critical product inconsistencies.

2. Strategic execution

To resolve these bottlenecks, I shifted the workflow focus from simple, tactical layout assembly to a highly systematized product framework:

  • Bridging Figma and code: Based on Atomic Design principles, I built a centralized, responsive Design System (Web and Mobile) to eliminate both technical and design debt. I structured fundamental design tokens (spacing, color, typography) and mapped components directly to what engineering could actually build.

  • Rapid discovery and validation: I operated in parallel, agile sprint cycles, using desk research and continuous remote usability testing (via Maze) to iterate on prototypes before developers wrote a single line of code.

  • Design QA and Engineering alignment: I introduced a "Design QA Review" phase within the staging and testing environments. By inspecting styles at the code level alongside front-end engineers, I ensured the flawless implementation of spacing tokens, consistent responsive behavior, and correct component state transitions.
     

3. The impact

  • Reduction in MVP delivery cycles: Implementing a centralized, modular component library cut product visualization time in half, enabling cross-functional teams to test and validate ideas twice as fast.

  • Minimization of post-launch bugs: Introducing a Design Review phase eliminated common layout, spacing, and styling errors during the engineering handoff, saving dozens of development hours per sprint.

  • Standardized accessibility rules: I integrated WCAG 2.1 AA-compliant contrast targets and touch targets directly into the design system's foundations, making accessibility a native standard rather than an afterthought.
